New Zealand Golden Visa - Residence by Investment

New Zealand is stepping into a new era of investment-driven residency. The government has reimagined the Active Investor Plus (AIP) Resident Visa Programme, creating a more dynamic and accessible pathway for global investors.

New Zealand is stepping into a new era of investment-driven residency. The government has reimagined the Active Investor Plus (AIP) Resident Visa Programme, creating a more dynamic and accessible pathway for global investors who want to contribute to the country’s economic growth while securing residency in one of the world’s most sought-after destinations.

Designed for Opportunity

The previous structure of the AIP Programme set high investment thresholds and focused on riskier investments, leading to a decline in applications. Recognising this, the government has reshaped the programme to bemore inclusive, offering a balanced approach that caters to both ambitious investors and prudent wealth builders.

With this refreshed framework, investors now have two pathways to residency, each designed to meet different investment styles and objectives:

The Growth Category

For those seeking a direct, high-impact investment route, this visa has the following requirements:

  • NZD 5 million investment in approved managed funds and/or direct investments;
  • 21 days minimum residency over a three-year period; and
  • A streamlined pathway that rewards those willing to take on greater investment risk with a lower capital requirement.

The Balanced Category

For those who prefer diversification and a long-term stability investment route, this visa has the following requirements:

  • NZD 10 million investment across a range of assets, including:

    • Bonds (government, local government, and corporate);
    •
    • Listed equities and philanthropy;
    •
    • Property development (residential, commercial, and industrial); and
    •
    • Growth Category investments (approved managed funds and direct investments);
  • 105 days minimum residency over a five-year period; and
  • A flexible structure that allows for reduced residency obligations for those making additional investments.

For investors who increase their commitment amount, residency requirements can be further reduced, with up to 42 fewer days required.

Accessible, Flexible, and Future-Focused

The government has also removed the English language requirement, making the programme more accessible to a wider pool of global investors. This shift reflects New Zealand’s commitment to attracting high-value individuals from all over the world despite language proficiency.

Beyond Residency—A Strategic Investment

This is more than a visa programme. It’s a strategic invitation for investors to be part of New Zealand’s economic future. The reimagined AIP Programme is designed to attract those who bring not only capital but also expertise, networks, and innovation. By lowering financial barriers, diversifying investment options, and introducing greater flexibility, New Zealand is setting the stage for stronger economic partnerships that benefit both investors and the country.

A Future Ready Approach

With applications opening on 1 April 2025, the revised AIP Programme represents a new standard in investor residency—one that prioritises meaningful investment while allowing individuals and families to build their future in a country renowned for its stability, opportunity, and quality of life.

For those ready to invest not just in New Zealand, but in its future, now is the time to take the next step.
